American labor and civil rights advocate.

Dolores co-founded with Cesar Chavez the NFA which became the United Farm Workers (UFW). She helped organize the Delano (CA) Grape Strike of 1965 and negotiated the workers contract following the strike. Huerta has been arrested 22 times for nonviolent civil disobedience. She started organizing in 1955 with the Stockton Community Service Organization which brought economic benefits to the latino population. With her lifelong commitment to human rights in mind, Dolores founded the Dolores Huerta Foundation in 2002 with the purpose of creating opportunities to further women’s, LGBTQ, immigrant, labor, and civil rights. The foundation encouraged engagement and activism in these areas. She is a feminist and friend of Gloria Steinem. Dolores was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Obama.
