American anthropologist, author, and speaker.

Although Mead’s works were often controversial, her writings and lectures on cultural anthropology popularized the subject matter in America. Her writing on sexual patterns and attitudes in unfamiliar (to Americans) societies around the world had an impact on the sexual revolution of the 1960’s. Mead wrote on morals, sexual mores, race, and intelligence using data she compiled as an independent researcher and intrepid traveler to cultures worldwide.
